I would invent (or discover) the key to finally making nuclear fusion a viable energy source on Earth.
This would solve so many problems for us – we wouldn’t have to burn fossil fuels, we’d have enough power to last until the Earth is enveloped by the Sun, and we’d get a handle on global warming.
Thankfully, people much smarter than me are working on this now. There’s a project called ITER (https://www.iter.org/) which is working on figuring out this problem.
I’d love to develop the perfect nanoparticle cure that we’ve been dreaming of for so long. One that can selectively target any disease we aim it at, and evade resistance. There’s so many drugs that we know work for certain diseases, but are toxic to the rest of the body or the targets have evolved to be resistant.
With a nanoparticle vehicle, we could bring some drugs back, make treatments cheaper as less drug would be needed, and have chemotherapy or other very tough treatments have 0 side effect.
