Interesting question: the answer is it pretty much completely depends on the drug in question! Basically, when we ingest drugs (or pretty much anything else), our bodies break them down and metabolise them. Some drugs take longer to metabolise than others, and the longer they take to metabolise, the longer the ‘high’ lasts. In general though, the effects can last anywhere from 4-48 hours, depending on what drug you take, and your own unique body chemistry.
