The latest our world will end is in 4.5 billion years when the Sun expands. That is a very definite date, as there’s nothing we can do about it.
From an astronomy point of view, there are lots of things that could end the world at absolutely any time. An unseen asteroid might hit us (unlikely because we keep an eye out for these tings), a black hole might swallow us up (unlikely as there aren’t any black holes near us. We think. They’re hard to spot 😉 ), a gamma-ray burst might hit us (unlikely because they don’t happen very often, and will need to be pointing right at us to hurt us).
The most likely answer is humans will likely cause our own extinction long before any of the above happen (by war, or by global warming or by over population etc).
But there’s still plenty of time before any one of those wipe us out. We can fix things, we just have to start working on solutions now 🙂
