Because I liked mechanics the best in school. Studying the motion of objects in the world and the universe seemed really cool and exciting and I went for it in secondary school and then in university.
Then I studied how rubber deformed but that wasn’t really that exciting. Then I realised that I could use the same maths to study biological soft tissues such as human organs. That’s way more exciting! I get to talk to surgeons and see what they need to know and hopefully I can help them make a good diagnostic or plan an operation well. I feel useful!
