Strictly speaking, I’m still in school (doing a PhD is still part of education). I’ve been in education for the last 21 years now. So going back and doing it all again would be a big task!!

I don’t think I’d do secondary school again. I wasn’t very good at languages (I did Irish and French), and I found English and accountancy very boring.

I’m glad I did all of those subjects, because I feel like I learned something from them, and I liked secondary school…but I don’t think I’d do it again.

Yes I would! In fact I did that once. I stopped studying for three years (went to the South Pacific for my French military service, went to Dublin to work in Eddie Rockets) and then went back to university for a Masters. But in UCD! It was all in English and I had relearn all the maths. Was great because I understood much better the second time around. In University we have a good number of “mature students”, people who are going back to studying after many years of break. They all tell me they enjoy the experience!

Almost everything I learnt came in useful at one stage or another. Except Latin, can’t remember a thing!

Yes, I think so. Although I don’t use a lot of what I learned in school (or college for that matter) in my day to day life, sometimes it’s good just to learn for the sake of learning. And because I did woodwork for my inter cert (that’s junior cert to you) I’m a dab hand at DIY and IKEA assembly…not bad for a girl eh?!

I don’t think I would like to go back and relearn things I’ve already done (although I wouldn’t mind doing a refresher course in French), but I would theoretically be interested in going back to school/college to learn new or complimentary subjects! For example, I would love to do a course in genetics or neurology, both of which I find absolutely fascinating, or even a course in something like history, which I always adored in school, and still do some reading around now.
