Clean energy!
As cool as it would be to discover aliens, there’s not much we could do right now with that knowledge! For example, if we found intelligent life around Proxima b (the closest Earth-like exoplanet to us), we wouldn’t be able to reach them (because we don’t have the technology to get there) and communication would take about 8.4 years to complete (Proxima b is 4.2 lightyears away, which means light takes 4.2 years to get from Earth to Proxima b). So if we sent them a question today, we would get an answer in 8.4 years! And that’s assuming their technology is as advanced as ours is!
However, the benefits from having 100% clean energy today would be immediate – we would halt global warming, we wouldn’t have to dig for oil and coal anymore, we’d save the ice-caps. That’s just too many amazing things to pass on.

Definitely make clean energy! While talking to aliens would be undoubtedly cool, and we could learn a lot from talking to another race, the ability to generate enough clean energy for our energy needs would be amazing for our planet: we would hopefully be able to put a stop to climate change, halt deforestation, remove a lot of the pollution from our air and water…the list goes on!
