My name is Alessandro and I am 29 years old. I’m from Vicenza, a small town near Venice! I’ve studied in Italy but since last year I started working at University College in Dublin. Due to this pandemic situation unfortunately I am not currently living in Ireland though, since I am in Italy waiting this period to pass.
In my spare time I love to go hiking on the mountains (if I am able to find them around me). Sometimes I go climbing, both outdoor and indoor. I could be defined as a “triathlete wannabe” since I’ve started training all the three sports involved (swim + run + bike).
I usually buy tremendous amounts of books (different types of, different topics) but I end up accumulating them all in every corner of my house since I do not have enough time to read them all.

Being a statistician, or a data scientist, implies that you spend a huge amount of time at your desk looking at your laptop screen. It might sound boring sometimes but it isn’t at all. And if people look at me working they might think that I am simply staring at my screen, but I swear that there is something else going on there!
Data are pretty exciting. During the last years we are really witnessing an explosion of the amount of data. We can collect them from smartphones, from social media, from smartwatches, from polls and even from cows! From cows? Yes, from cows. In fact I am currently studying huge amount of data that allow to understand when cows are happier (and if they are happier, they produce better milk and we have better breakfast)(so, probably, if cows are happier we could end up being happier too, don’t you think?)
All those small numbers I am seeing every day are telling some stories. You only need the proper tools to listen to them, to understand them and to tell those stories to all the people who are interested!
