Question: Can you already connect drones to phones already and what is the max height for good connection

We can already connect drones directly to smartphones on the ground using technology like WiFi. It typically works over 100 or so meter ranges before the quality drops. Similarly, the drone has to be at heights below 100 meters or so. That’s obviously not good enough if we want to do serious work with drones. That’s why we’re looking at connecting drones directly into the mobile phone network. Your mobile phone doesn’t use WiFi to connect to the phone network, it uses technologies like LTE and the newly emerging 5G (although not many phones in Ireland support 5G yet). We want to get drones to work with 5G as well.
