There are many types of soils. In Ireland these are classified into 11 great groups. Each great group is then further divided into subgroups depending on different factors like amount of clay, organic matter, how wet the soil is, etc. The sub groups are then divided into soil series which have more specific characteristics. There are 213 different soil series in Ireland.
