• Question: Why is there a lowest possible temperature?

      Coldness can be thought of as a lack of movement. When you heat things up (or add energy to them) you excite them and they tend to move away from each other. When you cool things (or take energy away) the opposite happens. Essentially there is a limit to how immobile and energy-less particles can be.

      Yup as Duncan said temperature is simply particles moving around, if you stop them completely that would be the coldest they can be!
