It all depends on how you define the capacity to think/act on your own. I can write a program that is self-learning, but without my input it doesn’t exist. I can see the ability for a machine to self-learn rules and logic, but emotion may be far enough away. How do you program emotion? Are emotions more valuable than logic? I’ll have a think about this one!

Interesting question! Nowadays, technology has allowed us communicate in very advanced ways, bypassing human interaction on many levels. If we programme a robot to have emotions, what kind of work would they do? And even if they lived independent of humans, how would that affect us on a daily basis? Who would be in charge of programming them? How long would they exist for?
