The most interesting thing that I discovered was that the tumour model that we were using in the lab wasn’t quite what we thought it was. In order for us to test drugs and how they might benefit patients, we use models called cell-lines, which are human tumour cells grown in the lab. Some of these cell lines can be mixed up or contaminated. I used statistics to predict that one of the these cell lines that is used around the world to model ovarian cancer was from another part of the body. I then got one of my biology friends to look at it down the microscope and they agreed. It means that that cell line can be withdrawn or used for something else.
In work, when I started using a microscope, I discovered that I cannot converge an image with my 2 eyes unlike most people! So I only ever view things using my right eye!
