      Dr. N. Arul Manikandan is a chemical engineer by profession and completed his bachelor to doctoral degree in the same stream. He is consistently working on deriving nature-based solutions to alleviate environmental and societal problems right from the undergraduate programme. Prior to PhD, Arul has worked on several projects funded through government funding agencies focused on treating different wastewater using biological techniques. His PhD research revolves around turning industrial refuse into bioplastic. This project has received the best dissertation award from Kamaraj College of Engineering and Technology, India and a runner-up award from the University of Malaya, Malaysia. Currently, he is working as a postdoctoral researcher at the National University of Ireland Galway in a project funded by the Science Foundation Ireland (SFI). Arul has authored and co-authored five book chapters and 27 articles. He has been recognized as an outstanding reviewer by the Journal of environmental chemical engineering, Elsevier, The Netherlands. Besides, he serves as a reviewer for several other journals under Elsevier, Taylor and Francis and Springer portfolio.

    • My Typical Day

      Pray, eat, work and sleep. Repeat it. Some exceptions are always there.

    • What I'd do with the prize money

      I plan to reach out to school children here at Galway to demonstrate my research lucidly to ignite their minds to derive nature-based solutions for societal and environmental problems. If I get the money, I will be using them to buy gifts for all the students attending this workshop and special expensive gifts for the extraordinary performers.
