My biggest achievement was to discover a new event that affected Ireland 35 million years ago that was not known before.
My biggest failure was to spend 3 days in Scotland for a fieldtrip and when I analyse the samples taken during that trip, they were all useless.
It is important to me to stay positive. I do not see things that do not work out as failures, but as stepping stones to success. This is my source of self-motivation and helps me continue learning.
Achievement: I am the first PhD graduate in my family. The number of female scientists in my country is still very low, and I get to encourage women to gain a higher education.
For me personally the biggest achievement is that both my wife and I have managed to find permanent jobs at Universities in the same city, which is not easy at all. The failures tend to be less dramatic (but also more frequent) in comparison, so there is not a single ‘biggest’ one.
My biggest achievements were finishing school and passing my driving test. I don’t have a biggest failure but I have had failures in my life so far but I choose to learn from my mistakes instead of thinking what I didn’t achieve.
I would say receiving the Marie Curie Postdoc Fellowship is my biggest achievement to date. As far as failure is concerned, there have been many, but none stands out as the biggest. So I would say I have learnt many tough lessons in the past.
My biggest achievement so far is probably graduating with my BSc in Biochemistry and starting my PhD. I don’t really measure my failures, but there have certainly been hurdles! I failed my first driving test, which is the one that stands out for me the most.
