Yes, I love my job. And I will tell you why.
First, I get to work together with great people. Part of my job is to work with companies and provide them with new research. That means that I get to see what big technology companies do and be part of their development. Also, my I am very happy to work with my colleagues who are very skilled scientists. And a great team can do much more than any scientist alone.
Second, I get to work on very modern topics such as automatic translation that allows people to communicate with each other even without knowing each other’s language (the computer translates for them).
Third, mostly I have to chose how to distribute my work – sometimes I work more than 12 hours and even though it is exhausting it is worth it, once you see that the result is something new, interesting and useful. Well, that doesn’t happen in every project, but, hey, one step at a time…
Sometimes I work 4 or 5 hours a day and have the time to read, relax, gather ideas for new research, go on a walk, etc.
Fourth, there are many conferences around the world that I visit. I see new places and I meet new people. This is one of the great experiences in my job – to meet new people, to get to know other cultures and places.
Fifth, I also get the chance to teach university students which I love.
