No, I don’t think so. At least, not in the “killer robot” sense. What I think will happen is that technology and robots will become more integrated in our lifestyle and we will continue to tie ourselves more closely to robots.
Remember, the modern smartphone (that is with a touchscreen, apps etc) is less than 10 years old, but most of us can’t imagine living without one. So I think that is the real vision of the future. We will have more technologies which are smarter, and are tightly integrated with how we live our lives.
That is a good question. Recently I read that somebody from Google predicted that in 2045 machines will become self-aware. That is the point know as singularity. After that machines will be able to teach themselves, to upgrade themselves and to work for their own well-being (whatever it may be).
Although this may sound quite negative, I think at that time either machines and humans will converge in one type of organism – humans with integrated artificial intelligence in their brains. At that point there is no way we talk about machines taking over because machines and humans will be one.
The other scenario that I can imagine is that when machines become self-aware they will separate completely from the humans and try to live their own ‘life’ but will not taking over humans as that will not be in any benefit for them.
