My work is trying to understand why people get breast cancer- what it is that goes wrong inside some cells that makes them turn into bad cancer cells.
I’m also working a a new drug we created that we hope (maybe one day) will be a new way to specifically kill these breast cancer cells in people, to help people live longer.

My Typical Day
I spend some time teaching my students, working in the lab, and writing.

I teach my students (PhD and masters) how to perform experiments in the lab and make sure they learn new techniques and ways of conducting experiments.
During the school year I also teach undergraduate students some of what we know about how what breaks in cells can cause cancer, and how we can use this knowledge to kill those broken cancer cells.
I also spend time communicating our work – either writing up our work so other scientists can see what we are doing and what we found out (to help their work) or reading about others work that could help us!
