Yes, I often to get to travel with my job. In science, we really value the sharing of ideas and knowledge and so when we have a new discovery to show off or when we want to see what everyone else in our area is working on, we travel to scientific conferences. At these conferences, all the scientists working in our field meet up, we present our work and listen to what everyone else is doing. This sharing of knowledge is so important and it’s a great way to meet interesting people. These conferences can be all over the globe! For example, I’ve traveled to conferences in Ireland as well as in the US!
Yes, i was in Berlin last week for 4 days at a conference! i was in Australia in February talking about my work! I would travel at least once a year internationally to talk about my work- and at last once a year within Ireland as well.
In the past I lived in Germany for over 4 years and in Japan for half a year. Since I have been back in Dublin, travel has been very regular, usually about once a month, for conferences, workshops, PhD examinations. There is a balance somewhere between too much and too little travel though…… sometimes when i come back, I have to remind myself where I live!
Of course! Travelling is one of the best perks about working in research.
When I was in second year of college I got to work in a university in Helsinki, which was really cool.
Since I graduated from my course in engineering, I have had the opportunity to go to conferences all over the world to present my research and to see other great diagnostic work.
I was in Chicago last year, Washington DC next week, and I’m moving to Boston in December.
I’m hoping to travel to Korea & Japan next year – fingers crossed!
One of the best things about science is that science is a global language and get to travel so much. This year I got funding to go to a scientific conference in Crete for a whole week and it was all inclusive and a 5* Hotel. Was very nice!
