My first experiment (out side of college) in a laboratory was detecting if some human cells we were growing (from a particular human disease) contained a specific protein we had engineered them to express. I was fantastic fun and i had to learn lots of new things to do this.
I don’t remember, probably something with a ruler and some string – but my first research project was “Why do Ducks never get wet”, in high babies or 1st class!!
My first experiment in a proper lab was testing food samples for bacteria like E-coli and Salmonella on special dishes. I was fascinated to see these bacteria I’d only ever heard about actually grow in front of my eyes!
