Drug addiction can be treated with therapy, and a very controlled reduction of drug use. People who have a dependence on drugs have altered their brain chemistry, and need a lot of support to be able to stop using without become very sick. The main problem with this is that people often can’t afford this help, or when then have received it, the support doesn’t continue and they fall back on the “comfort” of the drugs.

There are a number of medicines available for drug addiction; some which allow the addict to come off the substance gradually and some which react against a substance if one is taken by an addict. One of the biggest stumbling blocks is that these still rely on self-will and avoidance of the substance and these are usually difficult to control.
