        This is a very broad question… I’m not sure how to answer! I’ve only been a scientist for the past 4 years, and really, I’m still training. I’m not working on a specific drug, but I have made new reactions to either make new molecules, or make molecules in a new way- so that’s a bit of progress for me, and for chemistry! I’d really like to work in drug discovery so I could discover new medicines.

        Hi Amy, I have made so much progress in my relatively short career but it is just the tip of the iceberg. I have a team of chemists that I lead and together we are only going to get better and better! Outside of my direct work environment I have also been involved in creating a local museum exhibition (The Elements at Ulster Museum, Belfast) and I work really closely with local schools running competitions and also helping the education authority to make the syllabus better for pupils at schools!

        Hi amyohara – gosh, I’m not sure where to begin. I graduated from college 20 years ago and I feel like i’ve made a lot of progress in terms of career progression in that time. I lot of the progress has been in personol development rather than chemical understanding.
        I’ve been in my current job about 18 months and this has involved understanding organic chemical synthesis, which I hadn’t done too much of since finishing my degree as I was more of an analytical chemistry specialist previously.
        I’ve really enjoyed learning new things and hopefully I will continue to do that through the rest of my career.
