Being a scientist is amazing. You get to use your creativity and analysis skills to think about the world around you, to try and understand the universe a bit better, to manipulate atoms to bend to your will! Well, that last bit is a bit over the top, but as a scientist who works making new reactions, it is pretty cool to think that I am using science to do things no-one else has ever done before. Science is all about asking questions, and then coming up with creative ways to answer those questions.
Sometimes it’s hard and awful. When things go wrong, when it looks like you might never get the answer to your question… it can make you feel really sad and hopeless. That’s why it’s important to work hard and be creative. There is always another way to ask your question, and when things go wrong, they can always be fixed, no matter how bad.
And science is just really awesome, so even when my work isn’t going so well, I can think about other science or talk to other scientists, and it makes me happy again!
