I only work on computer models, so my job is not dangerous. However, other scientists that work in labs have more danger if dealing with chemicals etc.
As Emma says, there are dangers when you work in the lab with certain types of chemicals. I did some work in the past using acids and high pressure vessels that involved some risk of burning if in contact with your skin, explosion, corrosion and so on. But scientists need to do risk assessments and evaluations before doing experiments to know what measures of protection and prevention are needed… and therefore avoid any actual accidents.
My job isn’t really dangerous… unless you want to consider poor health associated with sitting in front of a computer for hours a day.
I have worked in labs where I had to handle strong acids like concentrated HCl and there are always dangers associated with that. I have also worked with liquid nitrogen (-195 deg C) and liquid helium (-269 deg C) which should be handled with care.
