• Question: Do lab coats serve as any protection?

      Yes when we are in the lab we wear lab coats for protection. It means we are not carrying traces of what we might be working with out of the lab and home with us and protects any area of exposed skin. Also lab coats are generally made with a flame resistant material and so offer better protection than our everyday clothes if there was to be an accident in the lab.

      Lab coats are really important for protection: they protect us from splashes of chemicals, which might harm us or our clothes, and they stop us from carrying chemical contamination out of the lab on our clothes. Lab coats are also flame retardant, which means they don’t go on fire easily, and they should also be super quick to take off in a hurry, all of which protects in a situation where something goes on fire.

    Yes absolutely, they stop us from bringing things in or out of the lab on our everyday clothes and are made from a material that is less flammable. They’re also made with poppers instead of buttons, so if we spill something dangerous on ourselves, they can easily be taken off very quickly.
