Absolutely! I would be looking at some feathers, blades of grass, any jewellery I can find around the house, fingernails – basically, anything that will fit under the microscope 🙂

If you have some clear nail varnish you can put a little bit on the back of a leaf, let it dry, then put some sellotape over the nail varnish. Press down hard on the sellotape and pull it off the leaf very gently. if you have a slide, carefully stick the sellotape down. You should then be able to see the stomata (breathing pores) of the leaf. A good plant to try this on is ivy – it usually works quite well. Most plants look different under the microscope but some can be difficult to make an impression in this way.
