Question: Why are tropical fish so colourful compared to fresh water fish?

There are lots of reasons, sometimes the fish are using their colour to communicate something, sometimes they’re trying to attract a mate, and other times they’re trying to avoid a predator by trying to blend in, for example by trying to match the colour of a colourful piece of coral.
