Hi Everyone!

I’m a 28 year old Research Scientist and I work in Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT). I work in an optics lab, which means I get to spend my days playing with lasers, mirrors and lenses. At the minute I’m working on making holograms which will change their colour if there are dangerous gases present in the air, like carbon monoxide, or if drinking water is contaminated. Hopefully one day, people can use these holograms all over the world, especially in places where air and water pollution is a big problem.

I live in Dublin with my soon-to-be husband Luke, but I’m originally from Kilkenny. Apart from science and research, my main hobbies include listening to new music, playing the ukulele, reading, and watching the Harry Potter and the Lord of the Ring movies on repeat, they never get old!

My Typical Day

I spend most of my day in the lab using lasers and making holograms, as well as reading about all the new scientific developments that are happening.
What I'd do with the prize money

I would buy equipment that can be used to show students how holograms are made and how they work.
