Hi Roisin,
Thanks for asking, actually I ended up in science in quite a roundabout way.
My first choices in the UCAS system (up North) were all Medicine… as an 17 yr old I didn’t know very many jobs out there, and being a doctor was one of the few options presented. But that did not work out for me, and I ended up using my CAO choice to do Science at Trinity. Thankfully it worked out very well, and am really glad I didn’t do medicine now!
Hopefully this shows that there’s manymany options out there which you probably haven’t even heard of yet in school, so don’t worry too much about the future and take time to try lots of new subjects and see what you find interesting 🙂 Keep in mind that at school level everything is taught in a very simplified way because you cover so much material in Leaving Cert, and the subjects can get watered down. I only realised how interesting Chemistry was when I did it in more depth in college!
