Chemistry was always my number one option, and I love it. I like the PhD, but the PhD is not my dream job yet, it one step in the ladder to get my dream job.
I really enjoy my job, originally I wanted to be a designer or architect, but in transition year I came to Trinity college for a week and learnt all about nanoscience and that changed my career path.
My dream job would probably be working for or setting up my own cutting edge innovative company like Tesla or SpaceX.
When I did my leaving cert, I didn’t really know what was possible. I had no Transition Year and no work experience outside of life on a farm, what a school teacher did and anything I happened to encounter in life. I had never even been in a hospital!
I studied what I enjoyed and was good at rather than targeting a dream job – I still did not know what that might be but I did want to be able to work at a lab bench and do – not just manage others doing. I love to be hands on.
When I realised what I wanted to do was when I was on work experience in college. I just loved working with a research team, side by side with production.
thats really interesting!!! my dream job used to be a primary teacher but over the summer i was watching alot of architectual and interior designing programs and i changed my dream job to being an interior designer!!! its actually sooo interesting an fun!!!!!!
I’d recommend trying to get work experience as an interior designer in Transition Year then! You might confirm that’s exactly what you want to do and get great experience in it, or realize you don’t really like it as much as you thought you would and decide to do something else!
