Nanomaterials are absolutely being used for healthcare.

A few examples include, nanomaterials surfaces which react with light to kill bacteria, microbes and create self cleaning surfaces which would prevent the spread of superbugs in hospitals!

Better imaging and diagnostic tools are being created by nanotechnology which can allow for earlier detection, more individualized treatment options, and better therapeutic success rates.

Nanotechnology and nanomaterials could be used for very drug delivery in the future, only releasing the drugs at a certain place in the body, or over a certain length of time.

Researchers are also studying ways to use graphene nanomaterials to help repair spinal cord injuries; preliminary research shows that neurons grow well on the conductive graphene surface.
This bioengineering is a huge area of research not just in Ireland but worldwide!
