That’s a really good question and it shows me that you are thinking about the experiments we do and the risks involved.
We have to be careful, as it is possibe to become infected. We work with viruses in special safety cabinets, we use special protective clothing and face masks and gloves to protect ourselves so that we prevent exposure and when we have finished our experiment we destroy any viruses using special chemicals followed by heat treatment in a huge pressure cooker (called an autoclave) using very high temperatures.
