I think I’ve been a scientist for as long as I can remember. Even as a small child, I wanted to know how things worked. My father is a farmer and as is the case for most farmers, a bit of an engineer too – I think he passed on that inquisitive nature to me, he used to dismantle tractor engines, fix them and rebuild them and I loved watching that.
I guess cancer research is a bit like that too, we take the cancer cell apart to find out what went wrong in the hope of finding the fix? Can you see what I mean?
To be honest, I didn’t know what I wanted to be. I thought this would be an interesting career that I could find a job in. And then you adapt to it, and begin to like it. I could have been a waitress, or a translator, and been just as happy!
I always loved science in school. I particulary loved biology. I loved biology of the human body and how the body works. I knew I wanted to work in something that involved this.
