I think I’ve been a scientist for as long as I can remember. Even as a small child, I wanted to know how things worked. My father is a farmer and as is the case for most farmers, a bit of an engineer too – I think he passed on that inquisitive nature to me, he used to dismantle tractor engines, fix them and rebuild them and I loved watching that.
I guess cancer research is a bit like that too, we take the cancer cell apart to find out what went wrong in the hope of finding the fix? Can you see what I mean?
The hardest thing about science is when an experiment doesn’t work out and you have worked so hard on the problem but still have no answer. back to the drawing board!
