Yes, indeed, I think my job is important, but at the same time I appreciate that other things like roads, hospitals, trains, etc are also important. But if a country has a good economy and is well educated, I think that science is a luxury that i s well worth investing in!
I am lucky enough that I so far have lived in countries were science was important and I had a great time doing research! I also found out a few things that help others to understand the world around us better!
Part of my job is to train and teach the scientists of the future, they are the problem solvers, the creators, the developers and the innovators of the future. We need them find solutions and treatments for the major threats we face including climate change, obesity, cancer, food poverty and energy security.
It is a great privilege to be able to teach the scientists of tomorrow.
I also work as a cancer researcher along with thousands of scientists worldwide as part of ‘Team Cancer” trying to solve the jigsaw of cancer one little piece at a time.
