Scientists around the world are concerned about the political situation in the US.
President-Elect Donald Trump has questioned the science underlying climate change — at one point suggesting that it was a Chinese hoax — and pledged to pull the United States out of the Paris climate agreement.
“Trump will be the first anti-science president we have ever had,” says Michael Lubell, director of public affairs for the American Physical Society in Washington DC. “The consequences are going to be very, very severe.”
Really good question. It could have a massive impact, or none at all. It would depend on Trump’s policies. We don’t have a clue about them since he contradicted everything he said in his election campaign. Brexit could have an effect. Many UK researchers will not be eligible to apply for EU funding anymore, which could be good for Irish researchers. On the other hand, many of our collaborators are based in the UK.
