Not right away. There is a long process from circuit design using a software, to manufacture the circuit and then to test the manufactured circuit. This process might take around 2 years in academic environment like Tyndall where typically only one person is working on a project. If its working fine then we (now I get help from few more people) need to find a company who might be interested in the circuit. If yes then they sell on our behalf.
If I were in a company the process would be considerably faster as I get more help right from the beginning. But the flip side is a person doesnt get much time to explore new solutions unless you work in a research and development arm of the company which are becoming very rare these days.
