Question: What happens if you plant this and the plants die?

If it’s planted properly the garden should be able to keep itself alive for several years.
The oldest terrarium is over 50 years old.
The plants provide oxygen for the insects and the insects provide carbon dioxide for the plants.
I will be consulting with gardening experts for advice on how to make it work!
