• Question: do you have to like strap all the space equipment down before take off so it doesn't float around up there?

      Yeah that is exactly right. Once you are up in Space there is no gravity to keep things attached to the ground so they just float. So everything is strapped in including the astronauts.

      Velco tabs are used throughout space stations and vehicles to stick things down to stop them floating about.

      The head of NASA gave a talk in Dublin a few months ago, and one of the things he mentioned is that you can’t “set any thing down”. Everything has to be tied down or tucked away. Good ol’ velcro. I wonder what is the most important invention for working in space… Anyone?
