I’m going to assume engineers/physicists count as inventors, so I’ll say Robert H. Goddard, who back in the 1920s and ’30s built and flew the first liquid-fuelled rockets and made space travel possible. Sadly back then people made fun of him because he thought we’d go to the Moon one day.
For me its a tie between Tesla and Turing. Tesla came up with hundreds of inventions, including alternating current (AC) electricity, which is what we have in our house sockets. He also had a plan to transmit power wirelessly all over america, but his invention was blown up before he had the chance to finish it. Turing invented a machine that was the inspiration for the modern computer. Neither Turing nor Tesla were recognized for their amazing inventions until after they had died.
