My two favourite pastimes are flying planes and snowboarding. On the science side I love Cosmology, specifically the Big Bang and the origins of the universe. I work with many other scientists, from Ireland and around the world, in the development of new types of telescopes. These can be used to tell us more about where the universe came from and what it was like in those early times after the Big Bang.

My main job is the simulating of very specialised telescopes. Selected telescopes will be built and deployed at ground stations here on Earth as well as in space. The main aim is to see back to the origins of the universe. To find out what the structure was like and how the universe evolved. I am currently working on the detection of a new type of energy signature in the background radiation left from the Big Bang. This signature will enable us to determine more about what the universe was like in the beginning.

The images below (The oval ones). They are the images of a map of the universe as was known at the year below the image. The last one (of the Earth) shows what an image of the Earth would look like using the same projection.
