I always enjoyed looking up at the stars as a child, and wondering how the stars worked. When I found out that I could do this as a job I was delighted. I actually find it hard to believe that some people are not interested in science. Science has interested me for as long as I can remember, and it still never stops surprising me. There are still so many important questions to be answered about the universe, and since we are the only intelligent life that we know of, then it is our duty to try to answer them.

I think everyone is interested in science when they are younger. When you are curious about the world around you that’s basically an interest in science. Sometimes when we get older we think that science is something that we cannot relate to, but really we are all scientists at heart.

Rather than being interested in science, I just kept asking questions and ended up here. 🙂

I remember the exact moment I became interested in science…I saw on the news that NASA had discovered water on one of Saturn’s moons called Enceladus…this for some strange reason, absolutely fascinated me, the fact that other places out there had similar characteristics to Earth completely drew me in, and I began going on the NASA website day in, day out, reading about new things going on in space science. I was lucky enough that this happened just before I had to choose my Leaving Cert. subjects, so I chose physics and chemistry, the interest grew stronger, and eventually I decided to go into science when I finished school. I’m working on red giant stars at the moment which I find so interesting, but I’m still oddly obsessed with Enceladus…I even have an app for it on my phone :p

I love to find out how things work. This led me to start in engineering and now I work in astronomy.
