The moons gravity is less than Earth’s because the moon has a smaller mass than Earth. Gravitational acceleration depends on mass and so the bigger the mass, the bigger acceleration due to gravity. Acceleration due to gravity on the moon is approx. 1/6 of that here on Earth at 1.62 ms^-2 🙂

The Moon is much smaller, and less mass means less gravity. In fact, we think the Moon might be just an old chunk of Earth that got thrown into space when we got hit by another object…
