In secondary school I did Biology and Chemistry and when I went to UCC I thought I was going to be a biochemist.
During 1st year at UCC I changed my mind and became a chemist – that’s a very common story. Hardly any of the chemistry lecturers I know started off university thinking they’d do chemistry.

I don’t think I knew exactly. Even within chemistry which I loved there are many different fields. I think initially I wanted to be able to analyse things and see what they were made of. Only once in university I realised I preferred making things!

Not really. I loved Mathematics more than Chemistry and Physics in high school. I really enjoyed problem solving. In College, I had all the science subjects for first two years i.e Chemistry, Physics, Maths, Biology. It was during those two years, I decided to take up Chemistry as my career / subject. I loved doing the experiments in chemistry laboratory.
