      Hi! The job is time consuming but I try to carve time for family and hobbies too. It is very important to maintain some balance in my opinion or you could be totally overwhelmed and obsessed with work.

      I have an OK social life thanks – and lots on non-scientist friends.

      Actually I have had a great social life during my research career. A lot of great ideas come when at the pub! This goes double if you’re with professionals from areas outside your usual study. Just the other day I had a great chat with a computational chemist about ruthenium in both our areas of work and we both learned something from the exchange. This is how work connections can form and these are crucial for ground breaking science!
