• Question: hi james i would just like to ask you . Does water makea fire worse and why does it make it worse ?

      Hi 528 Susa,

      Water shouldn’t be used on electrical fires because it can conduct electricity and this will lead to anyone getting wet also possibly getting a shock.

      It shouldn’t be used on oil fires either because it doesn’t mix with oil and will result in spreading the oil (and the fire) over a much larger area.

      On other fires water will quench because as it strikes the fire it heats up to become steam (taking heat from the fire).

      thanks for this brilliant question
      I think there is some fires you can’t use water with it like sodium fire as sodium will explosive with water. Moreover, water conduct electricity so you can’t use it in case of electrical fire
      but in some cases you can use it and it will be safe
