I enjoyed stories about scientists in primary school, really enjoyed science in secondary school and decided to do a degree in science in a university.
Once I’d done my BSc I stayed in UCC and did a doctoral degree.
In a way being a scientist is all about applying the scientific method. In that way I’ve been a scientist since I was around your level at school!
Becoming a professional scientist involves picking a science subject you like and are good at, studying that subject at A level and University. Once you have a degree or PhD (doctorate) you can go into many science based positions and be paid to study scientific research.
I studied Chemistry with industrial experience at Bristol University and stayed to do a PhD in catalytic chemistry before starting my current 4-year post doctorate position as a Research Assistant/Associate at the University of Sheffield.
I think I always wanted to know how things worked around me. So I never became a scientist per se. My academic training allows me to do it more systematically.
I have a teacher when I was child we make me love the science so much and every time he saw me he said you will be a scientist, this is why I decided to be a SCIENTIST while I was child. I think each one of us need role model in his life to motivate him or her to success, am I right?
