      Hi Susa,

      Iodine is an element and found as mineral (eg. Caliche) in nature. It is mostly obtained from Seawater and rocks.
      For compounds, it is easier to mention their composition. For example, water is made up of hydrogen and oxygen atoms.
      Similarly, Iodine (I2) is made up of two iodine atoms and it is a non-metal.
