• Question: Did your sciene teacher in school have an influence on why you chose to pick science as a career.

      Hi Maria,

      Yes I had a lovely biology teacher who took us for nature walks in the National Park in Killarney – which was just beside my school & spoke to us about how nature adapts & competes with each other. Like how some trees compete for light by growing very tall and how other shrubs can survive on little light & don’t have to grow very tall. That’s when I knew I wanted to study science in some form.

      Hello. I had a teacher in 5th class in primary school, who made me actually want to go to school. She was really into Green Schools and climate breakdown. We built a garden, with vegetable garden, bee and butterfly patch, sundial and composting. We all had duties as students, so once a week we had to document all the birds we saw in the garden, stir the compost bins, weed, water the plants, record all the insects and animals we saw in the garden and we would draw plant diagrams. It was my first introduction to science and it was very hands on. I loved chemistry in secondary school, as the curriculum, showed us how science was a series of incremental learning and that many scientists made mistakes, but bit by bit we were able to put a periodic table together. My teacher for chemistry encouraged me to study Food Science and she treated us like adults.
