Well, science is taken seriously by most people. If people don’t then that’s up to them. It’s all about your perspective, you decide what you want to take seriously or what you want to know more about.
I think that its very important that everyone at school learns some science as its important that we understand how the scientific process works and understand our own basic biology. If everyone understands how rigorous or strict the process is to publish our results, maybe more people would respect or accept the results? What do you think? I also think that the way the science system is made, it is very competitive and often you have to work very hard for not much money. This is because most of us work in science because we care, not because we want to earn lots of money. This is taken advantage of, because companies/government know that we will do our best to stay working in science, and they pay us less than jobs that require a lot less training. If the public understood the importance of good science maybe companies/governments would pay us a living wage.
I’m not sure what you mean by “more” – is it not taken seriously or not enough?
Science per se does not mean 100% right, as there are often enough hypotheses that contradict each other. Just to be aware that science achieves results of very different levels of quality, which may not be all coherent.
