• Question: If people throw batteries away (and no one picked them up) what would happen to the batteries.?

      I guess either they will melt in one of Ireland’s very few incinerators, or probably more likely end up in a landfill

      The heavy metals in the batteries (mercury, cadmium) could leak out, find its way to water courses & pollute the water.

      Batteries are can be made from acid, lead, nickel, lithium, cadmium, alkaline, mercury and nickel metal hydride. If you left batteries on the ground the outside would disintegrate and the toxic chemicals would pour out and go into the nearby soil or water. If humans or animal drank this water if could make them sick.
